Caribbean Restoring.Earth

Open training materials for unlocking the potential of Earth Observation in the Caribbean.

We want to share what we develop. Cambisol is small, we will stay small, so our capacity of reaching a large group of participants for a training is limited. Lo and behold, fortunately we have Restoring.Earth.

In December 2024 Cambisol gave two weeks of intensive training to government staff in remote sensing and earth observation in the Caribbean, training them in using online and innovative tools for a quicker and more effective response after a disaster.

After finishing our project with the World Bank Group we felt we wanted to share the materials with others. To inspire other governments and parties in the Caribbean region to do the same: training their staff in using Earth Observation data.

Together with the World Bank Group we therefore published all our training materials for download to our learning portal Restoring.Earth.

Needless to say these trainings have been fully customized for our audience at the two countries. Each use case was co-developed together with the participants. This means the information is generic to some extent, but also very case specific. But that is exactly the goal of Restoring.earth: we are happy to expand the training materials, so we can serve more people.

In addition to publishing the training materials on Restoring.earth, the data was also published on the learning portal of the World Bank Group, for their internal network like governments to be used.

In parallel to building and giving the trainings, Cambisol gave a comprehensive advise to improve the accessibility of LiDAR data for the governments of Saint Lucia and Dominica. This we did together with the University of Padova, more in particular with Prof. Francesco Pirotti and Dr. Eugenio Straffelini.

Restoring.Earth

Cambisol will continue to develop the open learning portal Restoring.earth: more training materials, more topics, more areas of interest. Let us know if you see opportunities!

You can read more about the training content in our previous blog.
